Notes on the creation of these prints by the artist:
I spent the entire day yesterday meditating on RBG’s life and legacy while painting her portrait. The act of painting seemed like the only balm that could bring any sort of healing to this painful time. I have to admit, the first emotion that I felt when I heard of her passing was anger. Anger that she had been taken away from us during Trump’s presidency. Anger at all of the pain involved with Kavanaugh’s nomination and fear of going through that again. I wish my initial reaction was something more wholesome like gratitude for everything that she’s done, or wishing her well on her new journey. As I painted yesterday, I realized that the anger I felt shows exactly how important her work was while she was alive, and still is now after her passing. “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." She did exactly that. And now it’s our turn. Thank you RBG for all that you’ve done for us. Thank you for showing us the way. I hope you’ll be proud of how we continue your great legacy. 💓💓💓 This artwork is the first creation that I’ve done since evacuating from the North Complex Wildfire almost two weeks ago. We still haven’t been let back up the mountain to pick up the burnt pieces and start anew. I lost all of my art supplies in the fire, and had to buy everything new to create these pieces. I’ll be selling these paintings to help pay for art supplies, and other losses from the fire. 10% of all RBG sales will be donated to Planned Parenthood in her honor.
